Premo Sculpey

What is Premo Sculpey?
This top-of-the-line polymer clay represents the culmination of several years' research and development, putting the talents and expertise of Polyform Products up against the most stringent demands of clay artists. The results are clear; if you need and want the best, use Premo Sculpey.

Characteristics
Premo Sculpey comes in an artist's color palette of 32 colors, modelled after oil paints and designed to make mixing a snap. In addition, we offer you seven special-mix colors. A Bleached Translucent contains a whitening agent that makes the clay whiter before and after baking, with less "ambering out". As additions to your creative palette we offer a Base (no pigment), Dark Ochre, Gray, Navy Blue, Sap Green and a Medium Red Brilliant. Paint palettes can be followed predictably. Mix Premo Sculpey with other polymer clays, Pearl-Ex pigments, or embellish with foils for interesting colors and textural effects. Colors are intense - heavy pigmentation allows Premo Sculpey to achieve and hold unparalleled detail in millefiori reductions with no "greying out". Premo Sculpey's lustrous Gold and Silver set the standard for jewelry work.

Premo Sculpey conditions quickly without additives. This clay responds to hand heat much more quickly than other clays. "Sculpting in color" is a joy as Premo Sculpey responds to the movements of your hand or tool and holds a sculpted line without "filling in". Seams are quickly and easily blended and hidden, with very strong welds. Some clays lose their integrity if leaching of plasticizer is necessary. For these applications Premo Sculpey is ideal. Premo Sculpey doesn't drag on the slicing blade, allowing fine accurate slices. Multiple baking using the "layering technique" is possible; easily add new clay to baked pieces and rebake.

Curing
Bake Premo Sculpey at 275F (135C) in a preheated oven for 30 minutes per 1/4" of thickness. Once cured, some colors may intensify and deepen. Natural baked finish is a very smooth "eggshell". Glazes and acrylic paints may be applied.

Strength and Flexibility
Cured Premo Sculpey has great tensile strength yet retains some flexibilty in thin areas. Very delicate work is possible over armatures. Molds and stamped designs can actually be stretched due to Premo Sculpey's "pattern memory".

Availability
The entire palette is available in both 2oz and 1lb blocks. Please also check out Premo Sculpey Art-Packs in the Sets & Kits links, and Premo Sculpey Shapelets and Stamplet Sets under Tools & Accessories.
